Assistant Professor of Art
Laura has taught at Taylor since 2017. In 2018, she was accepted to the Matter and Spirit Seminar in China and sponsored by the Nagel Institute for the Study of World Christianity. North American art professors and Chinese artists created work in response to the seminar, and the work was a part of a traveling exhibition around North America for four years. This experience encouraged Laura to explore new mediums and themes in her work.
Laura had 4 solo exhibitions since 2020, including Out of Sight in the Metcalf Gallery at 91ÇÑ×Ó (2020), One Another in the Schnormeier Gallery in Mount Vernon, Ohio (2021), Don't Lose Sight in the Sojourn Gallery in Louisville, Kentucky, and Behold in the The Cultural Center in Jasper, Indiana (2022).
She has also been a part of group exhibitions across the states. She exhibited internationally in a group exhibition What to Do with Difference at the India International Centre in New Delhi, India (2021).
As a part of the Painting 2 course in 2020, Laura led six students in designing and painting a two-story mural for Mama Pearson’s Soaporium in Gas City, Indiana.
Taylor is a place that is marked by the presence of the Lord. I chose Taylor as a student because of its strong art department and genuine commitment to discipling spiritual growth. Through my four years I grew academically, artistically, and spiritually in ways that I wouldn’t have anticipated. It is a joy to return back to the classroom as a faculty member.
Each individual artist has been gifted with a unique hand, and it excites me to be a part of helping foster Taylor students’ exploration, discernment, and development of individual strengths and visions in their creative processes. I love being in a community where we seek to be life-long pursuers of learning, excellence, and discovery in both creative image making and daily life—seeking to discover more of who God is and in turn learning more of who He has created each of us to be.
